This is a great resource site and thanks for maintaining it! One question, and I might answer it myself here, though I will also ask my Vet, if we want to avoid whole wheat flour and gluten in the food, shouldn’t we have treat recipes that are gluten free, too? Can rice flour be used interchangeably here? I realize that treats will not make up as much of the daily intake as their food. Just curious. John Benbow

      Hi John

Thanks for the comment. Rice flour should work okay here because it is tasteless, so your lucky pups will get more cheesy flavour. Not sure of the consistency factor.

I used to have to prepare gluten free for my mom, and found many alternatives. I used to mix buckwheat flour with the lighter rice flour for a more binding and sticky dough. (use more rice than buckwheat).

Also there are lots of other gluten free options as you probably know, such as soy, quinoa etc.

      Good luck and thanks

I used rice flour and flax seed instead of wheat germ for my granddog and she loved them. I just got an order from my son for another batch.
