NOTE

Don’t just feed chicken, switch it up and use:

  • Beef, Pork, Lamb, Chicken, Duck, Venison, or any meat that you would eat. (Finely chopped or ground meat)
  • Remove any extra fat drippings after cooking – I usually poach most of the meat
  • Cooked Fish or Eggs (occasionally), are acceptable for a change of pace. Make sure not to feed raw fish.
  • Try Organ meats once in a while, and for a treat sometimes add cottage cheese or yoghurt, which are good protein sources.

Substitute and rotate the long grain rice (Carbohydrate) with any of these: (slightly overcook these for easier digestion.)

  • Unprocessed oatmeal,
  • Brown rice,
  • Bulgur,
  • Millet,
  • Whole wheat couscous,
  • Barley,
  • Pasta
  • Potatoes

*NOTE: If your dog is “gassy” or prone to diarrhea stick with white or brown rice

For the cooked vegetables try any of these, mix and match and you will find your dog’s favourites.

Peas, green beans, carrots, celery, apples, bananas, pears, blueberries etc., can be used.

I make a vegetable/fruit puree (always cook the veggies)

Puree vegetables and fruits together

Use a combination of fresh, frozen or canned veggies and fruits.

An example of a mixture I use is cooked pureed carrots with pureed canned unsweetened pears.

I use more veggies in the puree mix as too much fruit can also cause tummy upsets.

SALT IS A NECESSITY IN YOUR DOG’S DIET, BUT CAREFUL WITH MEASURING. TOO MUCH IS HARMFUL!

Supplements are ESSENTIAL IN HOMEMADE DOG FOOD.

Without them your dog will quickly become deficient in calcium and important vitamins and minerals.

Use the one I recommend, or find one at your local pet store, or check out THESE FROM AMAZONVet Approved Homemade Dog Food – How to Make Homemade Dog Foodrecipes homemade dog food video amount to feed 1

Add new flavours and combinations slowly, to ensure your dog can tolerate the new food. Over time you will be able to give your companion a wide variety of tolerated foods.
